Categorical Perception
2 tokens / session
Show a reference item, then ask participants to pick which of two options matches it. There is a correct answer – you measure accuracy and RT to reveal categorical effects.
Choose this if
you replicate Winawer-style color discrimination, phoneme matching, face identity, emotion recognition, or any same/different categorical boundary task.
Results look like
accuracy split by condition – »within-category: 92%, cross-category: 78%«, mean RT, and response time histograms.
Try it yourself
A faint circle will flash briefly. Report whether you detected it or not. The difficulty adapts to find your detection threshold.
Starter templates
Colour match-to-sample — starter
CIE-Lab equiluminant swatches split across a hue boundary. Within vs cross-category match-to-sample trials.
Color Phi illusion — starter
Two alternating coloured dots at varying ISI. 2AFC (motion vs flicker). Adaptive staircase finds per-participant threshold ISI.
Reverse-phi motion — starter
Same as Color Phi but with contrast-inverted second dot. Participants perceive motion opposite to physical displacement direction.
Sensory threshold — starter
Adaptive staircase 2AFC task. Finds the per-participant threshold on a continuous stimulus dimension.
